The Shore
My daughter Austinie was about 5 years old here, and one of her favorite places to frequently visit was the Pier at Newport Beach California, and then to ferry over to Balboa Island.
The sketch challenges are moving along at Colorful Creations May Sketch-A-Thon. Here is my sketch that I worked from for the May 24th challenge. You should definitely come out to play with us!
I started the process by water-color painting the lace the right shade of light blue that I wanted, then I paper punched the edges of parts of the layout and border. Next, I distressed several layers of different papers and matted the photo on the cascading mat. I also found a heart shaped slide on an old piece of clothing (I'm not proud, but I will use anything that I find) and removed it. I used ribbon and more paper for the bow to the right of the photo. I also fussy cut the yellow flowers.
Here is a closeup of the flower cluster, further embellished by little pearlstrands and a homemade stickpin tucked beneath.
I love the saying I printed on the vellum tag, which reads, "You can never cross the ocean unless you have courage to lose site of the shore."
Here is a closeup of using stickles to dot a border above the Dusty Attic chippie. I gessoed the chipboard piece, then painted it with holographic paint and a thick topcoat of crackle paint...it looks like the finish on a weathered boat.
And lastly, this is a closeup of a 17 year old photo, so the quality is lacking because I tried to increase the image size, but you get the idea as to how much fun we had that day!
I hope you all have a wonderfully blessed day!!!
