(We have an amazing line up of creative and inspirational projects all centering on Julie Nutting Mixed Media Doll Stamps. Let us get this party hopping!)
Welcome to Paper and Passementerie, I am so happy to be share my "A Girl for Every Season" Julie Nutting Doll Tags! I know that you will probably hear just how amazingly versatile these doll stamps can be, so I thought I would illustrate the principal by creating 4 different tags, each representing a season, Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn, using only one doll stamp - Lorenna! These are so fun to make and there really are no rules or limitations to what you can invent.
I start my tags out by having a firm idea of what kind of "feeling" I want the double-sided tag to have. I often use mood or a scenario as a foundation of my tags because I think they make great little vignettes or mini stories. After selecting the papers in the colors and patterns I want, I then begin to build my background. Often times I approach the background like I would a "stage." I simply figure out what I want for my scenery. This can be simple or elaborately layered. For my winter scene, I used some die cut trees and lovely little snowflakes.
One of the things I love best about the dolls is how you can use non-traditional items to dress them. For instance, I used cheesecloth to give her a "fur" stole. I used paper curly-Q's to accent her dress and I gave her some pretty sparkly accessories with a little bling.
My spring tag has some layering as I built upon the base paper, letting the design of the paper show through. I love to use lots of ribbon, laces and flowers to give multiple layers of dimension and fullness. I make my tags double-sided with a pocket on the backside so that I can use them for many different things. Some options could include putting a calendar on one of the larger tags, printing out a greeting and use it as a "card within a tag," or using the tag for a gift-card holder, letting it serve as the actual present. Tags are so versatile and the Julie Nutting Dolls add that perfect, beautiful touch!
I just love to accessorize the JN Dolls, and here I used a Flying Unicorn Adornment fan for a flirty little garnish.
My autum tag was so fun to make. I added lots of swirls and leaves to the fall colors and layered elements to fill it out. I like the contrast of light and dark colors and I try to interplay with the colors to get a blended effect.
Here is a close up of some fussy cutting I did and the layers.
Here is the back of the tag and the pocket full of mini-tags.
For the summer tag, I used papers from numerous collections, mixing and coordinating - using several patterns with similar colors from different paper lines. I even used a Halloween paper, but you can't tell.
